The complete Stud Book, with studs across the UK, has been published by the Club with 4-generation pedigress and pictures of the cats. Please use the publications contact form to obtain a copy, price £2.50 + postage

Please note that inclusion on the stud list does not constitute a recommendation by the Club, nor does it ensure a specific type of stud. Where possible a photograph of the stud has been included. Make sure you visit the stud and check on the facilities and type of the cat before leaving your queen.
SibirRameses
You should expect to pay around £70-120 for a stud fee, plus blood test fees at your vet's normal rate. Cats left with a stud owner are left at your own risk, so please be careful to ensure that her welfare and safety is suitably catered for. Be prepared to give the stud owner dietary instructions and details of any other special needs IN WRITING (the stud owner can't be expected to remember everything you say). Your queen and the stud must both be registered with the GCCF (Governing Council of the Cat Fancy) or the CA (Cat Association) and MUST BE ON THE ACTIVE REGISTER. If this is not the case you must consult the person who sold you the queen, and/or register the queen yourself. An extract from the GCCF code of practice for breeders can be examined below: these guidelines are intended to safeguard the health and happiness of studs, breeding queens and kittens.
CSC2

The GCCF is a body which deals with complaints against registered breeders and gives you some comeback, though 99% of GCCF registered breeders follow correct practices. The GCCF will investigate and if necessary discipline breeders registered with them who are reported as violating the code of practice.

Please contact the kitten-list secretary if you have a stud to go on the list.

EXTRACT FROM THE GCCF GENERAL CODE OF ETHICS FOR BREEDERS AND OWNERS
Registered owners of all GCCF registered cats/kittens accept the jurisdiction of the Governing Council of the Cat Fancy and undertake to abide by this general code of ethics.

  • Cats that are bought as pets, not for breeding, should be neutered or spayed at the age recommended by your veterinary surgeon. If cats are registered on the Non-Actuve register, this means that under no circumstances should the cats be bred from; no progeny from these cats will be registered by the GCCF.
  • Breeders agree only to sell cats where there is a reasonable expectation of a happy and healthy life. An offer should be made at the time of sale to help with the rehoming if at any time circumstances require the cat to be found a new home.
  • Owners should not sell any cat to commercial cat wholesalers, retail pet dealers or directly or indirectly allow cats to be given as a prize or donation in a competition of any kind.
  • Breeders must not knowlingly misrepresent the characteristics of the breed nor falsely advertise cats nor mislead any person regarding the health or quality of the cat and must draw the attention of purchasers to the implications of the Non-Active register when selling pet kittens
  • Breeders selling a kitten on the Active register should offer advice and support to the new owners. Owners should not breed cats in a way that is deleterious to the health of the cat or the breed.
  • Breeders/owners must ensure that all relevant Governing Council of the Cat Fancy documents are provided to the new owner when selling or transferring a cat in accordance with Rule 10, including a copy of this code.
  • When a cat or kitten is advertised or sold as a pedigree cat or kitten the breeder shall, at the time of sale, provide the purchaser with a properly completed pedigree signed by the breeder, carrying 3 generations at least, showing all the the breed numbers and registration numbers, also the breeder's name and address.
  • If, at the time of sale, the cat or kitten is registered, the seller shall provide thepurchaser with a transfer form, duly completed and signed by the seller, unless it is jointly agreed in writing by both parties at the time of sale not to do so.

Stud Owners should:
  • Offer at stud only cats which are healthy and have no obvious hereditary defects.
  • Supervise all matings to ensure the safety of both queen and stud
  • Provide the Stud with suitable warm and sheltered accommodation, with access to an open air run, and give him the company and love he needs to ensure a full and happy life
  • Ensure that arrangements for visiting queens are both warm and comfortable and adequately secure. Looking after someone else's cat is a serious responsibility and should not be undertaken lightly
  • Make every effort to guard against communicable disease both in the stud and in all visiting queens.
  • Assist breeders in following good practice with advice and other support where necessary
