I am a hobby breeder of old-style Siamese.
My kittens are lovingly reared indoors, are wormed, weaned and litter trained before going to their new homes at a minimum age of 13 weeks. Kittens are registered with the GCCF, are vaccinated for Feline Panleucopenia (FPV), Feline Herpes Virus (FHV), Feline Calicivirus (FCV) and Feline Leukaemia. They are also micro-chipped and insured for four/five weeks depending on which insurer the new owner prefers.
I occasionally sell for breeding either to experienced breeders who want to import new genes into their line or to new breeders, who I am happy to mentor. Very few people wish to breed as a hobby, but I can confirm it can be fun, very rewarding as well as heartbreaking at times. It is also an expensive hobby and few breeders 'break even' at the end of the year, so it is not for those who think it may be an income!
As a one of the founders member of this club I am committed to the breed as well as the club. Breeders of many years standing are now retiring from their hobby and there is an urgent need to attract younger people into the cat fancy. Without breeders there would be no Siamese kittens, result no club!
In addition, I wish to ensure that breeders understand that 'old-style' does not mean 'pet quality', this is why we have included information on this site regarding application of the standard and how to improve on type. The use of the word 'old-style' in relation to Siamese seems to be in common usage and the club is well established. Breeders need to work towards ensuring that their Siamese have the correct ear set and eye colour, the latter having been mainly lost in a lot of the old-style cats. When that has been achieved, for those who like to show their cats, they will be able to challenge the judges.
